Braided Crochet Head band Pattern and FIRST POST! Yippy!

I finally got my 3 year old down for a nap Whoohoo! So.... I thought I would try to recreate the Braided Head band I concocted last night. I will be doing a different color than pictured. This being the oh... maybe the 4th headband I've crocheted I like to think it turned out pretty darn good.

Supplies:

  • Size J Hook
  • Yarn{any color, I find will be using a grey}
  • Crochet needle - for hiding loose ends
  • Good music - I require music while I work.
Started with: The Only Exception by Paramore ♪ Ended with: Ex to See - Sam Hunt    ♪

Part One Steps:
  1. Start with a Slip knot and then Chain(c) 42
  2. Skip the first two chains then Double Crochet(DC) in the remaining 40 chains **HINT** I find that when I have about 10 of the DC done I put them underneath something to hold it in place to make it easier to manage** When you do the last DC - you will then c 2.
  3. Insert your hook into the same chain you just performed your last DC into and do a Slip Stitch (SS) ** This creates a little loop on the end that we will use later to attach your "braided piece" to the back portion of your headband.
  4. Cut the yarn and pull your loop through so it is tight. Hide your loose ends
Repeat steps  1-4  three times - you will end up with three identical pieces that will be used to make your braid.

Part two Steps:

  1. Start with a Slip knot, then TIGHTLY DC into the loop of one of your pieces mentioned in step 3.do another Tight DC in to the same loop.Repeat for the remaining pieces created in Part 1. Chain 1 and turn your work.
  2. Half Double Crochet into each of the six DC created in step one, Chain one Turn your work Repeat. Repeat for as many rows as you need to fit your headband around your head.**HINT** When you Braid your three pieces together it makes them shorter so measure when those are braided. I braid mine then held them with one of those weird chip clips. When you have determined you have the right length it is time to connect the back to the other side of the braid
  3. Fold in half - right sides together. if your pieces are not braided, braid them now.
  4. c 1 and start your DC such as repeating step 2 but also going through the loop on the braided piece. You should go through each loop twice for a total of 6 DC. then chain too and cut your yarn and pull tight.
  5. Hide all your Loose ends flip back so it is right side out.
  6. MARVEL at your beautiful work

If you wish to alter this pattern:

For a thicker headband do four or five braided pieces instead of three. Just remember however many pieces you do double that number and that is how many HDC you will do for the back piece

Maybe use different colors of yarn for all if your pieces.
